Memorial Day

Memorial Day
What is Memorial Day?
Memorial day is a day on which those who died men or women while serving the U.S. military are remembered. It became an official federal holiday in 1971. Another thing is that it's also the beginning of summer.
When is it?
Memorial day is observed on the last Monday of May.
What are some few ways to show honor and respect on Memorial Day?
Many americans observe Memorial day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in paredes. Some few other things you can do is make a thank you card or note to soldiers, visit nearby Veteran's hospital and enjoy freedom by spending time with your family.
What are a few thing you will do on Memorial Day to show honor and respect?
A few things I would do show honor and respect would be show some love, spend time with my family, give support and talk to someone who was in the military. It’s important to understand that memorial is an important day in the U.S.

My thoughts on memorial day are that we should all celebrate it because we need to honor those who fought for us. Another thing is that Memorial day is a great time to reunite with family members and friends to make some delicious food. My feelings about Memorial day are that it's sad because we don’t see the hard work people in the military do. We think that they just go away for a while and then they will come back. But the truth is that sometimes not everyone makes it. So go out there and show some love and support on Memorial Day. We will need to remember this day from now on because it's very important.

Student Success Statement

“I have been asked what I mean by ‘word of honor.’ i will tell you: Place me behind prison walls-walls of stone ever so high, ever so thick, reaching ever so far into the ground-there is a possibility that in some way or another I might be able to escape; but stand me on the floor and draw a chalk line around me and have me give my word of honor never to cross it. Can i get out of that circle? No. never! I’d die first.”- Karl G. Maeser

I think that this quote means that when you give your word of honor you should never break it because it can cause you to have consequences. An example of this quote would be you ask your mom for permission to go out with your friends but she tells you that you have to be home by 9:00 and you agree. When you realize it’s already 8:30 you should already know what to do. You will have to tell your friends that’s it’s time for you to go home even if they’re trying to convince you to stay a little longer. But if you would’ve done the opposite of that you would be breaking your word of honor to your mom. Which means that you’re choosing the wrong. No one can make you break your word of honor except you because you’re going to take full responsibilities of your actions.  Make sure that you always choose the right because it’s the best thing for you and for everyone else around you.

Alexander Pope

“Act well your part; there all honor lies”- Alexander Pope

What this quote means is that if we do well in our part we will feel good about it because they weren’t lies, it was only us being honest. We need to choose the right and not the wrong because it may lead to consequences. An example of this quote would be Martin Luther King Jr. because he fought for civil rights and was honest about it. He did because he wanted freedom and equal rights for everyone. Since he did it with honesty and integrity he is now remembered and honored as someone important. I advise you to always do your part by being honest because it will only bring out the good in us. You should  want to be honor with honesty lies and not real lies that you may have committed because you may lose everything. Choosing the right will lead you to many good things and you may even get something in return because you did it with honesty. Remember to do your part by being honest, nice, and CTR because you may only get one chance.

Veterans Day

  Veterans Day
Veterans day is a public holiday held on the anniversary of the end World War I to honor US Veterans and victims of all wars. This holiday started as a day to reflect upon the heroism of those who died in our country’s service and was originally called Armistice Day. Then in 1954 the holiday was was changed to Veterans Day in order to account for all veterans in all war. Veterans day is held on November 11. The purpose of Veterans Day is to honor the brave men and women, living or dead, that fought America’s battles, past and present. It is important to show honor and respect Veterans Day because they did so much for our country and we have to show them how much we appreciate them. Another thing is that this is the right thing to do at least give them our attention. Some ways to show to show honor and respect on Veterans Day is to show up, donate, fly a flag(correctly), write, and visit a VA hospital.

Reflection: My feelings toward Veterans Day is that I am glad that they do celebrate it because this is showing them our respect. Another thing is that we should celebrate even if we didn’t have no one in our family attend the army. I believe that Veterans wasn’t  just to honor those who serve but to show us how we also won this war. It would be nice if you guys attend a ceremony because this means that you do appreciate those who have served for us. Choose the right by honoring Veterans Day because they did sacrificed their life for our country. I am really glad to be a part of Veterans Day.
